专辑简介
音乐总监Neal Stulberg指挥UCLA爱乐乐团,演奏了作曲家Eric Zeisl从未被录音的作品。有Zeisl在青年时期在维也纳时的创作,如体量并不小的交响曲Little Symphony: After Pictures of Roswitha Bitterlich (1935-36),和私密感很强的November: Six Sketches for Chamber Orchestra(1937-40)。而Zeisl在洛杉矶的成熟期作品,富有戏剧性的《大提琴与乐队大协奏曲》(Concerto Grosso for ‘Cello and Orchestra (1955-56)),是他的管弦乐作品中规模最大的。
1935年,Zeisl参加了当时非常受欢迎的Roswitha Bitterlich画展,Roswitha当时是一个14岁的提洛尔小姑娘。年轻的作曲家被她的画作打动,满怀激情地写下了他一生中唯一的交响曲。Zeisl后来回忆道:“那些画,尤其是画背后的想法,真是一个巨大的刺激,我回家就开始根据这些想法作曲,完成曲子只花了……4天。”
Bitterlich的画作,也就是本专辑的封面,“The Madman”,启发Zeisl写了交响曲的第一乐章。
