《On DSCH》是一次伊戈尔·莱维特(Igor Levit)以前从未尝试过的唱片之旅。这位自称是“完美主义者”的音乐家喜欢把自己推到智力和体力上的极限。
关于专辑的名称,DSCH这几个字母用其德语音符名称拼出了肖斯塔科维奇的音乐特点,这是一个神奇的音乐代码:DSCH – 肖斯塔科维奇的个人音乐座右铭,巧妙地从他的名字Dmitri SCHostakovich的德语名而来的。在德国的音乐符号中,S [sounding\’es\’]是E flat,H是B natural,导致令人难以置信的四音符序列:D-E flat-C-B。
专辑内收录的肖斯塔科维奇的《24首前奏曲和赋格》完成于1951年,可以被看作是对所有大调和小调总结的作品,总共持续了约两个半小时,而另一部由苏格兰作曲家罗纳德·史蒂文森完成于1963年的《DSCH帕萨卡利亚》,是一套不间断的变奏曲,也持续了近一个半小时。莱维特对这两套作品进行了多年的研究,并分别从2017年和2018年开始在音乐会上频繁演出。每一次演出都被誉为是一项卓越的成就。
莱维特本人将肖斯塔科维奇这24首前奏曲和赋格曲描述为“一种音乐日记”。他说:“(作品)有一种完全独特的东西”,“作品中关于这种温暖、直接和纯粹的孤独的结合。对我来说,这是一种自我探索和自我发现的仪式,涉及到最亲密的问题”。
作曲家罗纳德·史蒂文森是一个具有乌托邦式人生观的孤独者,他从钢琴的起点出发,开始环游世界。DSCH主题为他提供了一个基础,在三百多个变奏中,对各种钢琴和风格的可能性进行了壮观的调查。莱维特认为,帕萨卡利亚就是一部名副其实的生活汇编,一种告诉我们对整个世界责任的音乐。
