如今,巴赫的大提琴组曲已成为所有有抱负的大提琴家的必修课。对于丹麦国家交响乐团大提琴独奏家亨利克·达姆·汤姆森(Henrik Dam Thomsen)来说,巴赫大提琴组曲是他生命中不可或缺的一部分,正如所有顶级大提琴家一样。汤姆森有机会更深入地沉浸在巴赫组曲中。当一个人演奏组曲时,他必须在现有的所有巴洛克音乐知识中做出许多选择。汤姆森认为,重要的是要忠实于他自己的乐器,并用他的固定大提琴–一把1680年制造的弗朗切斯科·鲁盖里大提琴( Francesco Ruggieri)–进行演奏,使用现代琴弦,用传统琴弓演奏,并将音调调至通常的442赫兹。这些选择确保了组曲整体的最佳同一性。组曲在哥本哈根巴洛克风格的加尼森教堂(Garnisons Kirke)中录制。
