Healing Is Difficult is the second studio album by Australian singer and songwriter Sia Furler, the first under the mononym Sia. The album was released to the public on 9 July 2001 in United Kingdom and 28 May 2002 in the United States, almost a year later.
[Aussie edition of 2002 solo album debut for Zero 7 vocalist includes one bonus track, \’Drink To Get Drunk\’ (Different Gear Mix). Background
After the massive failure of Sia\’s first studio album, OnlySee, she decided to sign to Sony Music\’s sub-label Dance Pool and released her debut single \”Taken for Granted\”. The single reached number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. The next two singles, \”Little Man\” and \”Drink to Get Drunk\”, also charted. A fourth single, \”Blow It All Away\”, (re-recorded as \”Throw It All Away\” because of the September 11 attacks) went unreleased for unknown reasons. The album failed to chart in the UK due to the lack of promotional support. Unhappy with this, Sia fired her manager, left Sony Music, signed to Go! Beat Records, and started working on her soon-to-be third studio album, Colour the Small One.
The track \”Soon\” featured on Sia\’s debut album OnlySee, but was re-recorded and retitled as \”Sober and Unkissed\” for the second studio album. \”I\’m Not Important to You\” was originally performed by Sia as \”Sia\’s Song\” with her band Crisp, for their album Word and the Deal, in 1996.
Singles
The first single entered and peaked at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart on 3 June 2000. Sia performed the song on Jo Whiley\’s BBC Radio 1 radio show. The next two singles did not match the success of the first. In 2002, \”Taken for Granted\” peaked at number 100 on the Australian ARIA Singles Chart. In April 2002, the album debuted at number 99, staying there for a week. It also reached number 9 on the ARIA Hitseekers Albums Chart.
Trivia
The original Healing Is Difficult CD, long out of print, is quite rare among collectors, yet not nearly so as OnlySee.
The interludes heard in some songs make a full song when put together.
This is Sia\’s most explicit album, however, it displays no explicit lyrics marking on streaming services.
