无论在排练过程中还是面对媒体时,克劳迪奥·阿巴多都一样寡言少语。指挥棒是他向乐团传达对乐器色彩、分句和对乐曲解读要求的工具,也是他传情达意的方式。他最擅长生动诠释穆索尔斯基、威尔第、普罗科菲耶夫和德彪西的作品,同时对舒伯特、门德尔松和马勒的抒情交响风格也信手拈来。1933 年,阿巴多出生在米兰的一个音乐世家,在一次演出中聆听了德彪西奥妙迷人的《夜曲》(1892-1899)后变立志成为指挥家。在那之后,他的音乐品味变得越发多彩。他在 1959 年第一次指挥歌剧,选择的剧目是普罗科菲耶夫奇幻活泼的《The Love for Three Oranges》(三橘之恋,1921),而非经典意大利剧目。尽管本性内向,但阿巴多还是凭借音乐才华赢得了多家顶级交响乐团和歌剧院的首席指挥或艺术总监之职:他曾在伦敦交响乐团、米兰斯卡拉歌剧院(他在那里指挥过 Luigi Nono 等当代作曲家的作品,还培养剧院乐团独立上演音乐会)、维也纳国立歌剧院,以及柏林爱乐乐团。阿巴多本人还召集富有才华的青年演奏家,组建了多个交响乐团,其成员后来又组建了欧洲室内交响乐团和马勒室内交响乐团。阿巴多 2014 年去世,为后世留下了丰富的唱片,也培养出一大群出类拔萃的交响乐演奏家。
