众所周知，查理·卓别林（Charles Chaplin）是电影史上最伟大的原创天才之一。然而，很少有人了解到他的另一面——天才的旋律发明家，和细致入微的电影音乐剧作家。在《摩登时代（Modern Times）》之后，卓别林继续为自己的其他电影创作音乐，包括《大独裁者（The Great Dictator）》、《舞台生涯（Limelight）》和《纽约之王（A King in New York）》等。其中1935年创作的《摩登时代》配乐因其复杂而新颖，代表了他作曲生涯的最高点。在这张专辑中，指挥家及作曲家提摩西·布罗克（Timothy Brock）对《摩登时代》的乐谱进行了修复完善，带领北德广播交响乐团（NDR Radiophilharmonie）进行了精彩的演绎。
